JO  OMODEI

DANCE ARTIST | CHOREOGRAPHER | TEACHER

AS THE EDGES SOFTEN / SONY AUSTRALIA SHOOT

ā€œThe highlight of the two programs, for me, is Jo Omodei’s As the Edges Soften, created a performed with Mitch Spadaro. Capturing the surges and retreats of the accompanying score- ā€˜ā€™Awe’’ by Roger Goula - the two dancers are somehow always in sync, even when they’re not. The opening is particularly beautiful; the pair stride from opposite sides of the stage until they meet in a pas de deux connected not by touch but by breath. ā€

THE FUTURE SOFTLY / PILOT, ENNEAGON MOVEMENT

ā€œDancer Jo Omodei is particularly strong in her solos throughout. At some points her arms circle wildly around her- like the hands of a giant clock whirling at high speed. Her dance suggests a battering felt by life’s external forces, but they also speak of freedoms achieved through independent release. ā€

ā€œThis beautiful work is about the space itself and how the duo move through it, together apart. They move elliptically and linearly, in swings and roundabouts, quickening and elongating as they nearly connect and then retreat from each other. ā€

A NEW DAWN / CHOREOGRAPHED FOR WAAPA DANCE SEASON

FLOW ACROBATICS / KENAN DINKELMANN, HENNY JURRIENS AMSTERDAM

ā€œ...a silver tinted moving dynamo Jo Omodei who flashes around a small concrete basement box space. ā€

AS THE EDGES SOFTEN / STRUT DANCE

ā€œThe overall effect of these simple elements along with the pure focus on movement and interconnectedness gives the audience an opportunity to pause and submerge themselves in the work. ā€
